ENCI Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 12, 2026

Summary: ENCI doesn't collect your data. There's no account, no tracking, and no connection to any server I run. Everything ENCI does with your files and settings happens on your own computer.

Who I am

ENCI - Free ("ENCI") is a dual-pane file manager for Windows, Linux and macOS. It's published by Jay Sanati, an individual developer. If you have any privacy questions, email hello@getenci.com.

Information ENCI does not collect

  • No account, sign-in or registration.
  • No telemetry, usage analytics, advertising, tracking or crash reporting.
  • ENCI doesn't send any data to me or to any server I operate. The app contains no code that contacts an ENCI server.
  • I don't sell or share personal data with anyone, because I don't have any.
  • ENCI - Free has no in-app purchases.

Information stored on your device

ENCI reads, previews, copies, moves, renames, deletes, compresses and extracts the files and folders you choose, on local, removable and network drives you can already access. Your file contents never leave your computer, unless you yourself copy files to a network location.

ENCI also keeps a few things in a local folder on your computer:

  • Settings: your layout, tabs, workspaces, themes, keyboard shortcuts and search preferences.
  • Log files: application events and errors, which can include file and folder paths. They're deleted automatically after 14 days.
  • Operation history: a record of file operations ENCI ran (the type of operation, source and destination paths, status and timestamps), shown in the Task Center. It's deleted automatically after 30 days.
  • Temporary files: created when you preview or open files from inside archives. ENCI cleans these up.

On Windows this folder is %APPDATA%\ENCI. On Linux and macOS it's the equivalent per-user application-data folder. You can delete everything ENCI has stored at any time by deleting that folder. Uninstalling the app may leave the folder in place, so delete it yourself if you want it gone.

Network and internet use

ENCI accesses network shares and network drives only when you browse them. That traffic goes directly between your computer and your own network devices.

The only internet activity is this: when you click the website or email link in ENCI's About dialog, your browser or email app opens getenci.com or hello@getenci.com.

Microsoft Store and other third parties

  • Microsoft Store: if you install ENCI from the Microsoft Store, Microsoft handles the download, installation and updates, and may collect installation and crash data under Microsoft's privacy statement. Microsoft may share aggregated, non-identifying install and crash statistics with me as the publisher in its developer dashboard.
  • Open-source components: ENCI uses open-source components, for example the VLC media library for audio and video preview. They run locally inside ENCI and aren't used to send data.

Emailing me

If you email hello@getenci.com, I receive your email address and your message. I use them only to reply to you, and I don't share them.

Children's privacy

ENCI is suitable for all ages. It collects nothing from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Because ENCI doesn't collect your personal data, there's nothing for me to access, correct or delete. You can still email me with any request or question about your privacy, wherever you live, including under laws such as the GDPR, the UK GDPR and California's CCPA/CPRA, and I'll answer it.

This website

getenci.com doesn't use cookies, advertising or tracking. If you switch between light and dark mode, your choice is saved in your browser so the site remembers it; it never leaves your device.

To see how many people use the site, it keeps anonymous daily counts: how many times each page was viewed and how many times each ENCI download was started. Only the date, the page or download, and a number are stored. No IP addresses, browser details, cookies or anything else that could identify you are recorded, and the counts are never shared.

The site loads some of its styling code from the jsDelivr content delivery network, which receives your IP address as part of delivering those files. My web host keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested) for security and reliability. I don't use these logs to identify you.

Changes to this policy

If I change this policy, I'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. If a change is material, I'll also say so on this website.
